Brixham seaside & harbour.
Brixham in Devon is one of the three towns that make up Torbay on the English Riviera.
The picture postcard Harbour has a replica of the Golden Hind beside the quay amongst the yachts and fishing boats.
The town and harbourside has many interesting shops and cafes among the maze of narrow, winding streets.
You can charter a boat to take you shark fishing, and there are excellent facilities at the 500 berth marina.
You can sample freshly caught fish at one of Brixham Harbour's fish stalls but you may need to rise early to see
the catch unloaded. Admire the colourful and individual works to be found at Artist's Corner where painters depict local scenes.
Berry Head gives fabulous views from above the towering clifftops across the Bay and the walks will lead
you to the Berry Head Lighthouse (Britain's highest as well as smallest lighthouse), the Napoleonic Fort,
the visitor centre and the Old Redoubt - but best of all the magnificent scenery and natural delights of this national nature reserve.
There is a colony of Greater Horseshoe Bats living in the caves below, vast numbers of Guillemots and rare species of orchid.
Brixham has great beaches:
- Breakwater Beach - pebble and shingle beach close to town centre, easy access and good facilities.
- Churston Cove - small, quiet, secluded sand and shingle beach, no facilities.
- Fishcombe Cove - quiet sand and shingle beach, cafe and facilities, moderately easy access.
- Shoalstone Beach - shingle beach with rock pools, family facilities including swimming pool and cafe, easy access.
- St Mary's Bay - sand and shingle unspoilt beach with rock pools, moderately easy access, no facilities.
